We’re helping kids become confident, independent, resilient and to understand that our community is better together. Serving campers aged 5 to 10, our day camp program is made up of nine, 1 week sessions. Campers may choose to stay for multiple weeks, each week runs Monday to Friday with an option for extended care until 5:30 PM and an optional overnight each Thursday.
Our day camp experience is intentionally based on our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. We value the opportunity to learn and grow with each and every camper, while providing a variety of activities that give each camper an unique experience plus a chance to practice their independence.
A Day at Chingachgook
The day camp program runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with an early pick-up on Fridays at 3:00 pm. Each day includes a nutritious lunch, afternoon snack, fun activities, and time to swim in beautiful Lake George. Camp groups are divided by age, but there is also time each day for our whole day camp community to be together.
Our standard Day Camp program runs from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. We know it can sometimes be difficult for parents to coordinate their work schedules and other commitments in order to make it to pick up by 4 pm. We offer Day Camp After Care, which would extend your camper’s day until 5:30pm on Monday-Thursday each week (Friday pick-ups are still at 3:00PM). This option will be available for an additional fee of $80/week and would include care and activities for your child until 5:30pm, and it would include the cost of the Thursday overnight if your camper chooses to stay.
Themes & Speciality Weeks
Each week of day camp is based on an activity or genre, however, our main goal is to provide a variety of activities for the campers and give them a taste of all Chingachgook has to offer! Every week of day camp will include: daily swim time, group games/teambuilding activities, sports, archery, climbing tower, canoeing and daily choice time.
In addition to these weekly activities, we will be rotating 3 specialties throughout the summer: Outdoor Adventure, Creative Arts/STEM, & Waterfront. More info on each specialty is provided below, and you can see the 2020 dates for Day Camp here.
Outdoor Adventure (Weeks 1, 4 & 8): This is a great option for campers who love to challenge themselves and explore all the ADKs have to offer! In addition to climbing the rock wall (which campers get to try during any day camp week), these campers will try out the bouldering wall, explore the wetlands area, hike to some of the scenic lookouts around camp, learn about shelter building, try cooking over a campfire and learn about survival skills and leave no trace principles.
Creative Arts/STEM (Weeks 2, 6, & 9): For the creative & curious camper! This is a great option for campers who want to create, invent and investigate. In addition to our standard weekly stream exploration time, these campers will get the chance to use microscopes & maps to study Lake George, create art projects, tie dye, paint nature scenes from all around camp, try out our “Makerspace” to build their own instruments or try to build boats that will race down the stream and explore music through our Garage Band class!
Waterfront Weeks (Weeks 3, 5 & 7): Perfect chance to spend even more time in, on and around the lake this summer! In addition to our standard daily swim time and weekly canoe outing, these campers will get to enjoy all the Chingachgook waterfront has to offer! Enjoy fishing along the shore, trying out our paddleboards, playing water basketball, having fun on the slip n slide, and possibly even getting a chance to go sailing on Lake George!
Getting Ready for Overnight Camp
Day campers have the opportunity to see what staying at camp is all about with an optional overnight each Thursday. Experiencing an evening program and camping out in a tent with friends (or in nearby Rotary Lodge if rain is in the forecast) is a great first step to getting ready for overnight camp!
The overnight is an additional fee of $20 that includes dinner, breakfast and evening programming. Campers can sign up the week of for the overnight.
Our staff is a big reason your child will want to come back year after year! We select only the most caring and talented young adults to be role models for our campers.
Chingachgook’s day camp maintains a camper-to-staff ratio of six-to-one and is limited to 55 campers. Camp also employs a team of healthcare professionals who provide consistent care to campers throughout the summer.
